You know that review you wrote on Yelp about the terrible Chinese restaurant you just visited? Or the mean things you said on Angie’s List about the air conditioner repair man? What you write online could get you sued.
Jane Perez from Virginia went to Yelp, giving Dietz Development a one star review for work on her home. She said the contractor “invoiced her for work never performed,” “left her with damage to her home,” and “jewelry was found missing.” Christopher Dietz has since filed a $750,000 defamation lawsuit because of her reviews. This past week, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled Perez was allowed to keep the comments up for now until the lawsuit was settled.
