It’s called the ‘airline ticket scheme.’ It’s one of those ones you just wish was true. Technically, it isn’t a ‘scam’ because it isn’t illegal. Still, it’s a scheme you don’t want to get involved in.

“You’re going to have to jump through a lot of hoops to be able to get that,” said David Beasley, of the Dallas Better Business Bureau. “These companies are very good at knowing what the laws are and then walking a very fine line to what language is legal versus what language is ethical.”

You get something in the mail saying you can get two free airline tickets. It’s too good to be true.

“If you get a notification that you’ve won a contest that you never entered, then you should be very cautious about the offer,” said Beasley.
