When you think of F-16s, you think of the fighter pilots, those elite few who take the fight to the skies. But you already know being a fighter pilot is a cool job.
Tech Sgt. Jonathan Gibson at Naval Air Station Fort Worth also has a cool job.
“Basically we take the human system of the flying, the pilot himself and we maintain his gear, his equipment, his flying equipment that he needs to survive inside the cockpit, and we also maintain and take care of the stuff he needs in case he needs to get out of the cockpit and eject,” said Gibson.
Gibson and his co-workers in the 301st Operational Support Flight Aircrew Flight Equipment section keep the Air Force Reserve pilots safe and alive. There is no margin for error in their line of work.
“The plane itself, obviously is tax dollars at good use, but you can’t replace a pilot, so we’re here to make sure he comes back with all ten toes and [ten] fingers,” said Gibson.
