(WYLIE, TEXAS) Aramis is an African lion that lives at the In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue in Wylie, Texas.
“For about 10-14 days, every time he ate, he would eat and then he would vomit or then he wouldn’t eat,” said Vickey Keahey with In-Sync. “He just wouldn’t eat anything at all. After he went seven days without eating, we started looking at deer meat. We have people that donate different kinds of meat and stuff. Well, we found out that Aramis liked the Elk meat.”
The wildlife rescue quickly ran out of Elk meat and hunters who donate Elk they have killed in the wild didn’t have any available.
At Twisted Root Burger Co., hamburger and turkey burgers are on the menu, but so are Buffalo, Kangaroo and Elk.
“I got an e-mail Wednesday morning and it said, ‘Can you help? We got a sick, dying lion that will only eat Elk meat,’ and I thought it was a joke,” said Jason Boso, owner of Twisted Root Burger Co. “I called them up, and they were serious, they had an eight-year-old African lion that while sick, would only eat Elk meat, and I happened to have 50 pounds of Elk meat delivered that morning. And I said, ‘I’ll be there in 30 minutes.’”
