If you live in north Texas you probably know someone who suffers from allergies–in fact if you Google allergies the usual symptoms pop up.
Sneezing, runny nose and coughing–it must be allergies.
“I’m Dr. Arash Tirandaz of Texas Health Plano and I’m here to answer your Google questions.”
When it comes to allergies patients often think they have all the answers. I have allergies, right doc?
“A lot of times it’s very common for people to show up at the doctor’s office and be really worried because they don’t realize the other symptoms of allergies,” Dr. Tirandaz said.
And they don’t like the thought of having to take a daily allergy pill–and often times they don’t have to because they don’t have allergies–they have something else.
“There are also people who have a chronic sinus infection which you can have for five years,” Dr. Tirandaz said. “You may think you have allergies, you’re always congested, you feel terrible but the real answer is you have a chronic sinus infection.”
Of course sometimes people do have allergies–but just because you Googled it doesn’t mean you do.
Even in north Texas–odds are it’s something else–including the dreaded sinus infection which is easily treated.
“Once you take antibiotics for two weeks or longer that goes away and you no longer have symptoms of what you thought were your allergies,” Dr. Tirandaz said.
So there you have it–now back away from the computer and let us do the Googling.
