Another unique piece of Americana is fading into obscurity. But, it’s a safe bet that most never knew it existed in the first place: “Texas German.” It is so unusual that a UT professor says he has, “found no two speakers that speak it alike.” The problem is that the dialect is no longer being passed down from generation to generation and the youngest speakers are now in their mid-60′s. Texas twang is on its way out too. Researchers say words like, “y’all,” “nuff,” and, “fixin” are changing. They say urbanization and pop culture are taking over and diluting the colorful twang.
