Government Could Shut Down if Congress Doesn’t Act

Unless Congress makes a deal to fund the government in the next seven days, it will shut down.  What does that mean?  Well, you’d still get your mail and social security payments.  But new claims may not be processed, and payments could be delayed.  As for taxes, they’ll still get collected, but refunds could be delayed.  The parts of the government that protect our national security will stay open, but other government offices would close.  National parks, museums, and zoos would also likely close, and hundreds of thousands of federal workers could expect to be furloughed without pay.
