Awesome storytellers are critical to this format. That means the story is actually about the people you interview, and not just about your stand-up or being bogged down by boring details. Do you need three minutes to tell your story? If you can make it worth it, we’ll give you the time. What if you don’t record a reporter track one day because the nats are just that good? Don’t really think shooting a live shot in front of City Hall will help tell your story? Cool with us, just a straight pack is fine. If you’re willing to break the mold and bend the rules, we need you on our team. We want people who consistently contribute story ideas for shows. We want you to fight for more airtime and convince us why your story is the lead. We need you to develop and maintain productive relationships with news contacts and sources, work with producers on assigned news broadcasts, regularly post content to the station’s website and updates to our social media. Monitor feeds when necessary. Answer viewer phone calls and mail. Develop community contacts. Basically, we need you to be the eyes and ears of the shows. Other Requirements: College degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related area of study. At least three years reporting for a broadcast news organization. Effective writing skills and good organizational skills. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and criticism designed to enhance individual’s performance. Ability to appear live in a broadcast and deliver reports in a professional and effective manner. Ability to perform duties and make decisions under deadline pressure. Must have a clear understanding of web and social media outlets. Position could require nights & weekends. KDAF-TV is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

This is for the individual who wants to be on the producer/editor job track. You must have Final Cut Pro experience, or ability to learn. In this model, Associate Preditors keep the place running. That means you do everything from write, run TelePrompter, edit, floor direct and run audio. You’ve got to keep the web running, too! Position could require nights & weekends.

We already know that you know how to produce a traditional newscast. But what we need for the reboot are producers/editors who aren’t afraid to be nontraditional. You’ll have more control than ever before over your pieces—from shooting to editing to writing and producing. In every segment you do for the shows, we want you to own it.
We need you to know your way around Final Cut Pro and know how to handle a camera and not just point and shoot with it. We need you to embrace new production technologies and know audio, lighting and how to shoot for the edit. If this excites you, talk to us, give us your POV on TV News and how you’d like to reinvent it, send us links to your best and most unique pieces of FCP editing and writing samples (whether they aired or not), and anything else you think might help sell you as a key member of this team.
Other helpful skills: Photoshop, After Effects, lighting, audio, jib operation, stedi camera, line producing, writing, pitching stories/segments. Position could require nights & weekends.

The concept of a news ‘internship’ might conjure up images of a Xerox-operating; beat calling, camera toting, coffee-grabbing waste of time.
But here at Nightcap that is not the case!
We are looking for self-starters who are motivated, energetic, hard-working and interested in going beyond traditional news. Yep, if you want to learn about the new world of social networking, telling non-traditional news stories and actually playing a real role in the newsroom, this is the place!
Nightcap News Intern Positions-Everyone will work in each area and then they can determine which area they would like to focus on.
Social Media Intern- Social Media Interns must have a true passion for social media, they must have remarkable writing skills. Keep our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and other social networking sites up to date and work to increase hits and page views for our news content on the web.
Live Storyteller Intern- Get a chance to work with on camera talent and learn how to research, interview, write, shoot and edit reports daily. We do not do traditional news, so this is not the place for the person who wants to cover crime and tell boring stories. But if you want to learn from Emmy award winning journalist on how to tell creative stories, use graphics, and make the people we interview the story without boring reporter track; this is a good place to learn.
Preditor Intern- If you want to be a producer/editor/photographer/production assistant, this is for you. You will be able to learn how to do it all, in a non-traditional way—using what you learn in school, from shooting to editing to writing and producing. Running teleprompter and assisting editors and in the studio. Or working with producers to help write scripts for the shows and learn how to produce a newscast.
